SUNSET ROUNDUP, SEPTEMBER 15, 2007
The Golf Club
Dallas, Texas

Here's the pics I took today. Not as many as I thought I would take. But, there were some bad ones. It's hard to take a bad picture with a digital camera. .

BuddyBuddy Lamberth '42 was master of ceremonies for the 2007 Roundup. He has served in this capacity for many of our meetings and always does an outstanding job. Buddy is a regular at the monthly Last Saturday Luncheons at the Celebration Restaurant on Lovers Lane near Love Field in Dallas.

Webster Feild '41 waits to give the invocation at the Roundup. Web does a great job holding our group ('38-'45 classes) together. Web receives all the mail for us, takes care of our money (yes, we have some), pays our bills (yes, we have some of those too), handled all the arrangements for the Roundup, collected the money at the door (Elizabeth Kemp Russell '42 handled registration), and in general does what needs to be done. Web and Elizabeth attend both of the Last Saturday and the Third Saturday luncheons. Thanks to both of them for their work at the Roundup.

Jean Perryman Parramore '42 and Leroy Parramore '41 share a table with Karl Kuhn '41 at the Roundup. Jean and Leroy are regulars at the Third Saturday luncheon, which meets at the Luby's Cafeteria at Hampton and Ft. Worth Ave.

Anita Hague Stinchcomb '43 and her daughter pose prettily and patiently. Anita put in a successful career at Texas Instruments. For a long while, she was involved in the TI retirees organizatrion. In fact, she was one of the founders of the current retirees' group. I failed to get the name of the person on the left. Those of you who were at the Roundup know that I was having communication difficulties.

This is Bill Snyder '42 and his wife. Bill lettered in track. He was a pole vaulter on an outstanding track team at Sunset. He transferred in to Sunset from out of state and students instantly gave him the nickname "Wyoming."

Left to right in this photo are Catherine Simmons Russell '41, her daughter, Glenn Simmons '39, and his wife, Lucille. Catherine and Glenn are brother and sister and lived across the street from the photographer for many years. They have a brother, Fred, who avoids our Roundups. Well, to be accurate, he did attend one about four years ago. Catherine lives in Van, Texas. Whenever we are in a group she never fails to tell how she used to make me play paper dolls with her. She admits that she used to ride stick horses with all us boys. There weren't any little girls for her to play with in our neighborhood. Glenn lives in Arlington and was a career Navy pilot. He taught school for a while after he retired from the Navy and later flew for a jet leasing firm at Love Field.

No collection of Sunset photos would be complete without a picture of Ruthe Thompson Jackson '38 and here she is. Sitting next to Ruthe is Melissa Kinslow. Sitting next to Melissa is her husband, who is in the class of 1942. Ruthe is the Deputy Mayor ProTem for the City of Grand Prairie. Grand Prairie built and named for Ruthe a grand business and convention center. She told us that the city has committed several million dollars to put a new garden center on the north side of the Ruthe Jackson Center. When finished, it will be available for weddings, receptions and other functions as well as for viewing and reflection. Ruthe has two cable television shows. They are archived and available for viewing at the Grand Prairie page. When you get to the page, click on "Video" and choose either "What Happened In Grand Prairie" or "What's Happening In Grand Prairie" (two different shows by Ruthe). In addition to her life of public service, Ruthie is a historian and geneologist also.

At the memorabelia idsplay table at the Roundup, someone had placed this memorial page about Spencer January, who died earlier this year. I thought it was worth including here.

Someone put two reunion pictures of the Class of 1939, this one and the next one, on the display table. I have no further info on them. I don't know whether they were taken the same year or at different reunions. I do find it interesting that most of the guys sitting on the front row in both pics are wearing cowboy boots. I would expect some, but not that many. Anyone have an explanation for that?
